Aeration

Lawn aeration in Douglasville, GA

Core aeration that opens up compacted Georgia clay.

Compacted ground can leave a lawn struggling even when the mowing is consistent. Core aeration opens small channels through the soil so air and water can reach the root zone more easily. It is not a shortcut around grass type or timing: the lawn needs to be growing when the work is done. James reviews the turf and the conditions before agreeing to the job. We focus on the ground the lawn actually uses, with attention to access and anything beneath the surface that needs to be marked first.

What's included

  • Core aeration rather than simply making spike holes
  • Timing matched to your grass type's growing season
  • Attention to access and marked irrigation or buried obstacles
  • Soil plugs left to break down naturally

How we do it

A core aerator removes small plugs instead of only pressing holes into the ground. We plan the passes around the lawn's shape and take care near beds, edges and anything you have identified beneath the turf. Tell James about irrigation heads or shallow lines before work starts. Soil condition matters too: hard, dry ground and saturated ground are not the same working surface. The plugs remain on the lawn to break down naturally. Aeration supports the root zone, but it does not replace correct mowing, suitable watering or choosing grass that fits the site.

Georgia grass & timing

In Georgia, Bermuda, Zoysia and St. Augustine are best aerated in late spring through summer once they are out of dormancy and actively growing. Fescue follows a different calendar: early fall, especially September and October, is the window for aeration and overseeding. We do not send the same seasonal recommendation to every lawn. A warm-season lawn resting through winter should not be treated like actively growing Fescue. James considers the grass and current conditions when reviewing your request, so the work supports recovery rather than interrupting it.
